Yes We Can
I’m headed to Macon, MO in just a few minutes to cover President Barack Obama’s visit to a local power plant. And I couldn’t be more excited. I feel like in the past week, I’ve (traded sleep and) accomplished so much. And now I’m getting to do something that as a journalist, as a political nerd and as a citizen is so up my alley.
Besides having to write a paper last night, I could hardly sleep because I was trying to think of coverage ideas. While the obvious hot button stories will arise from today’s coverage, I want to break away from the President vs. Tea-Party battle that has bombarded the news as of late. Yes, both parties (no pun intended) will swarm Macon today; they already did last night for a Tea Party protest. But this is a Main Street tour. What about the Main Street audience? I’m hoping for transparency on the part of the POET Biorefinery that’s hosting the event; I’m fascinated by the story of the workers there.
Wish me luck! I’ll be updating my blog and Twitter throughout the day with live coverage! Stay tuned!
