And still others pointed out that unpaid internships are not forced upon anyone.  To which I say that unpaid internships ARE required for anyone with a journalism degree looking for a job. 

I get where you’re coming from, but actually, they’re not. An unpaid internship is one way to get your “foot in the door” somewhere- but it’s absolutely not the only way to get a “job” in journalism. Also, choosing a job in journalism is a choice. Historically speaking [and even currently speaking, as slaves do still exist], slavery is not- which makes the argument a little insensitive. I get that you’re using a different definition of “slavery,” and I don’t mean to jump on the “self-righteousness train,” but I’m going to  have to back Holly up on this one.
